Keep Your Glow: Skincare Essentials for the Winter Months ❄️

Are you prepared for the colder weather ahead? If you're worried about the harsh climate and dry indoor air wreaking havoc on your delicate skin, then we have winter skin care tips just for you! So you are prepared for caring for your skin in the cooler months ☃️

Winter is a season where your skin needs a little extra TLC because the conditions are rather extreme for our tender protective barrier. The cold air, whipping winds, sun reflecting off snow, and low humidity can steal moisture from your skin every second of every day. And once dryness starts, your skin can more easily crack and bleed, leaving it feeling dry, flaky, and itchy.

But don't worry! With a little extra time and effort, you can keep your skin healthy, moisturised, and looking good all season long. Here are some tips to help you prevent that uncomfortable and unsightly result, and keep your skin healthy and happy through the winter months.

Moisturise regularly

Cooler weather means drier air, which can cause your skin to become dry and flaky. To combat this, use a moisturiser that is appropriate for your skin type and apply it regularly, especially after bathing or washing your face.

Layer with a Facial Oil

For added nourishment, apply a facial oil like our Renewal Elixir Facial Oil over your moisturiser both morning and night. This helps to seal in moisture and provides an extra layer of protection against the dry winter air.

And do not forget your body! Lather your skin with a natural hydrating lotion like our Kakadu Plum Body Lotion to avoid dry, flaky skin.

Use a gentle cream cleanser

Harsh soaps and cleansers can strip your skin of its natural oils, leaving it dry and irritated. Use a gentle cleanser that is formulated for your skin type to avoid this.

Our Snowflower cream cleanser leaves your face feeling fresh and clean whilst leaving your skin nourished and well hydrated.

Protect your skin from the sun

Just because the weather is cooler doesn't mean that you can skip the sunscreen. The sun's rays can still be damaging, even on cloudy days. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30, and reapply it every two hours if you're spending time outside.

Avoid hot showers

As tempting as a hot shower may be on a chilly day, it can actually be drying to your skin. Hot water also dries your scalp, which can lead to itchiness and dandruff. It can also make the roots of your hair weak and your hair frizzy.  Stick to lukewarm water and limit your shower time to no more than 10 minutes.

Consider using a humidifier

Heated indoor air can be very dry, which can also dry out your skin. Use a humidifier to add moisture to the air and keep your skin hydrated.

Stay Hydrated

Keeping up with your water intake is vital for your skin’s health. Drink at least eight glasses of water daily to maintain internal hydration and support overall health.

Wear Protective Clothing

Guard your skin against the cold and wind by wearing appropriate, warm clothing. This helps prevent windburn and the drying effects of cold weather, like scarves and beanies.

Avoid Harsh Ingredients

Steer clear of skincare products containing nasty toxins and synthetic fragrances that can further irritate or dry out your skin. Instead, opt for gentle, natural products.

Exfoliation

Gently exfoliate your skin once a week to remove dead skin cells that can make your skin look dull. Opt for a mild exfoliant like our Gentle Face Scrub that won't irritate your skin.  This helps in improving skin texture and enhances the absorption of moisturisers.

Boost Your Diet with Skin-Friendly Foods 🥗

Eating foods rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, such as salmon, walnuts, and flaxseeds, can help fortify your skin's natural oil barrier. Foods high in vitamins C and E are also great as they can help repair skin damage and provide antioxidants that protect the skin from environmental stress.

TLC for your hair

During the cooler months, it's crucial to use high-quality hair care products enriched with nourishing ingredients. These products help to deeply moisturise, repair, and protect your hair from winter's drying effects. Avoid harsh chemicals such as sulphates and parabens, which can strip your hair of its natural oils.
